Highland Cattle
Highland Cattle Originating in the Highlands of Scotland, these impressive looking animals have long, shaggy hair which is usually a rich tan-brown colour, but can be black. The ones here at the Park come from the Isle of Skye.
This breed can survive in conditions that no other would tolerate, and exist on the sparsest of grazing. In some of the few remaining pine forests of the north of Scotland, cows which are left to stray become as wild as deer.
Longhorn
Longhorn This is a very ancient breed and was used for ploughing as well as for milk and meat.
It was very popular and by 1800 was the most numerous breed in the country. Its popularity was, however, shortlived and a breed called the shorthorn became the favorite British Cow. |
